Visible mending made easy: fall edition
New to sewing? Want to learn embroidery? I've got some beautiful stick-and-stitch patches that make it easy as pie. And right now, that pie is pumpkin.
When you're done stitching over the pattern, you just put it in water and wash the patch away.
Get cozy. Get spooky. Get thee to my Etsy shop.

a blackhole of happiness, greedy for the light it cannot give back
#dandy's doodles#ii#inanimate insanity#ii clover#kin#vent#<- okay to reblog!! i like how this turned out#also i will not be elaborating  everything's okay so you don't need to worry#it's very fun projecting onto clover. even if she doesn't have a problem i do i can easily analogize it with one she does have#isn't it fun how clover's leaves are heart-shaped? and how the word 'love' is in her name?#also i can't help associating clover with fire. just because of the box incident#and after all fire (and what it represents) is a great example of something that can be so helpful and so harmful at the same time#heat and light... it sustains life but can also destroy it#like the sun! or god! a flaming pillar that guides you and destroys your enemies in the wilderness#i have a whole catalog of clover symbology if you couldn't tell. very fond of her conceptually

This project...oh boy this project. So. I hate the yarn I used, it was an odd cotton yarn and my fingers did NOT like the texture of it, it almost felt like knitting with cotton wool which I also do not enjoy the texture of and makes me want to crawl out of my skin suit. But, despite my obvious dislike of touching this yarn, I do love this project because of what it is.
I did not make this as a wearable scarf, my point in making this was more as a teaching tool, as a physical and visible example of climate change. Every four rows, (every two garter bumps?) is representative of one year. The colours, starting with the blue, represent the average global temperature starting from 1922 all the way to 2021.

Hello hi greetings a few people have asked me how i make plastic bottle cap pins so here's a hopefully helpful guide for how I personally make them.
***I can't do image descriptions in this post right now, my apologies. But I will try and explain as much detail as possible while writing the steps. If someone reblogs this with image descriptions I will reblog and credit the person
***You'll need: a hot glue gun, pliers, a soda tab, a safety pin, a thumbtack, scissors, and some cardboard
Step 1: Score the inside of the bottle cap with a thumbtack, just the flat circle part. (This is so the glue sticks better) I do it down and across so the surface is thoroughly scratched up
Step 2: cut a piece of cardboard small enough to fit inside the scored part of the cap, inside the ridges too, and glue it in. It doesn't have to be shaped like a circle but it needs to fit flush against the plastic like this:
Once it's glued in there, seal it with some glue. The less you use the better but it really needs to be in there good. You don't need to score the sides on the inside of the cap, the glue will hold on the the ridges that are already there so it should be fine
***note: if you have a way of safely melting down the edges of the cap to make the whole thing thinner, the cardboard can be skipped entirely and you can just glue the soda tab and safety pin directly to the scored plastic
Step 3: bend your soda tab slightly with your pliers and insert the safety pin into it like you would for metal bottle cap pins. Make sure it looks like this:
The bent soda tab should be facing down and the pointy part of the pin should be facing up. Insert the piece that holds the pin closed under the middle part of the tab and back up through the other side, the slight bend of the tab should let it fit snugly in place.
Step 4: glue tab/pin on top of the cardboard piece. Again, the less glue the better, but to make sure it doesn't go anywhere I like to use another pin to move the glue all up in and around the soda tab so make sure it's held in place. Its also good to make sure the side of the pin sitting on the cardboard is thoroughly glued so it won't move around. Sometimes a little extra glue is necessary
Once it cools and you have your pin, you'll want to make sure that it sits balanced on a flat surface upright like this:
You'll wanna try and avoid having the safety pin sticking out too far otherwise it won't sit well on whatever you pin it to. So for it to look nicer it needs to be able to sit flat (painted side up)
And all that's left to do is paint it. Be sure to keep the angle of the pin in mind while painting to make pinning it to things easier. I hope this was helpful :) happy crafting 🌿❤️🌻

Really hope the doctor/therapist can help you out, Sci :,( As for the webtoons and tapas bullshit, uuuuuuuh,,,,,look on the bright side, you don’t have to do it anymore
agree - i never wanted to do it - but i feel sad on the behalf of all the people who wanted to read the blog on a more accessible platform. but it just isn't meant to be.
ultimately - it's been a problem since the beginning of ask-spiderpool and - you know, really - tumblr is the platform it was intended to be on and meant to be engaged with on. everywhere else is just an attempt to archive it - when it really, truly lives here. the same feeling of "home" just won't be captured anywhere else. even when i post to instagram or anything - it's just like, me opening a window for other people to glimpse through. but tumblr is home.
#sci speaks#the thing with the internet is that none of these platforms are sustainable. actually#webtoons or tapas could disappear with no fanfare whatsoever.#tumblr too. really. so all these projects need to be preserved and archived on harddrives if i'm being honest.#might create some messy little pdfs once i'm feeling up to it. that way they can be preserved in a fun little format that can be printed.

More sashiko inspired patches and mending!
I didn’t know that the traditional way to do a sashiko mend is to stitch the patch with the pattern and and then attach the patch to the clothing… but i still think it looks really cool! And it should still be plenty strong lol.

more mending. I thought about keeping this one as invisible as possible because this is one of my more formal tops, but fuck that. if I do it nicely enough it can still be "formal" but with more personality
this is where the actual hole was. it took six tries to find an approach that actually looked good but I'm happy with it now (tbh the green stitching is mostly for reinforcement and aesthetics, I did a quick pass with black on the inside to get everything lined up and most of the way secured first)
and because I thought a single green line crawling out of one armpit looks a little bit odd, here's a moon for symmetry. satin stitching is NOT my strength but this turned out ok

I finally tried darning!
It's not terrific, but it's a perfect learning project--the bottom of my kid's hand-me-down pajama feet.
I sewed a layer of felt sandwiched between two layers of cotton to the inside of the sole to patch it and provide some cushion, so the darning is just to add longevity to the original outer layer.
I still have a few more spots to do:
But I'm happy for the learning opportunity and to make otherwise great clothes last through another child!

Oh btw. Things that make me insane:
this Entire Fucking Chapter never fails to have me going absolutely rabid with happiness but specifically i did distinctly remember that Kopaka smiled in this occasion - not smirked, smiled, which is something that i dont think he does often especially in the first few books. On my first read I wholly believed he would have turned around and thrown something directly at Pohatu's head while yelling at him but no, he hears his voice and his first reaction is Pure Unbridled Joy
He was so relieved he literally forgot that hes the cold distant one and actually expressed an uncompromisingly positive feeling of care. I choose to believe he smiled so honestly that he was literally radiant. Like looking directly at the sun. Blinded everybody in a twenty five km radius for one singular hot second.
And then of course he went SHIT WAIT MY COOL DISTANT GUY PERSONA
#bionicle#thats not mentioning the Two Small Eulogies he fucking gives pohatu#OR the fact he screams for him for a while before admitting defeat#OR the fact that pohatu still followed him and saved his ass TWICE even after kopaka insisted he get lost#and while he does snap at him it never gets to a point where he yells at him#i also wholly believe that upon seeing him be alright kopaka actually rushed up to him to grab his arm n pull him into a hug/sustain him#thats probably me projecting but also jusy the way he speaks gives me that idea#random talks#i also like the implication that a fair chunk of the po-matoran populace has now peered beneath the veil of Kopakas metaphorical mask#which means that they cannot take his 'toa of not caring' charade seriously bc they know. they know he cares. they know it so well.#pohatu#kopaka
